On the Media: It's Tax Time (AGAIN)

Time to get busy to beat the April 15th deadline.

Informative re-broadcast of OTM's 2017 interview with Pro Publica's Jessica Huseman about why tax prep companies want to keep the process complicated and cumbersome.

One of the obstacles is the private-public partnership "Free File Alliance," also discussed in this episode. If that sounds like a misnomer, you may be right, even though their homepage has a direct link to a not-so-visible 'free-filing' webpage on the IRS website.

As a solo-preneur in the gig economy, I use Intuit's Quickbooks Self-Employed(QBSE) to run my small consultancy. It tracks income and expenses, including milage, and forces you to use their categories. This allows QBSE to generate standard state and federal reports that can be used for quarterly filing. There's also a bundle that allows you to upload data to TurboTax for state and federal taxes.
