Brent Rose's switch from Mac to Windows
In January 2015 David Weidner wrote a similar story for MarketWatch.
As a 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro owner, I agree with all of what Brent writes regarding the state of my generation of Apple laptop:
- I dislike using a dongle,
- The 'Butterfly' keyboard is louder than typing on my old typewriter (yeah, I grew up in that generation).
- This after having the keyboard replaced in 2018, when Apple added a silicone membrane underneath, allegedly to make the keyboard quieter (it's not) but also to keep dust out.
- Much has been written about the plight of Apple's ill-fated 'Butterfly' keyboard.
Brent doesn't stop with the hardware. He does a thorough drill down on the challenges of the data and cloud service migration, as well as moving from MacOS to Windows PC applications. Hint: I came to appreciate the consistency of Apple and 3rd-party keyboard shortcuts!
I've also come to appreciate MacOS security. I happen to believe that the Unix architecture is inherently more secure than Windows. Brent experienced a browser malware attack even though a free trial of McAfee Antivirus came pre-installed.
You'll also learn why it's easier for Apple to provide more consistent hassle-free operating system updates.
